Project Details
This concept proposal envisions transforming the Old Kallang Airport into a wellness centre, creating a sanctuary for relaxation and mindfulness amidst Singapore’s fast-paced urban lifestyle. Inspired by the site's history and spatial qualities, the design fosters a multi-sensory experience that encourages introspection and rejuvenation.
The proposal integrates symbolic elements from the site's mangrove heritage, where meandering pathways, layered greenery, and water features evoke resilience and calmness, counterbalancing urban stress. Circular pathways, inspired by the airport’s themes of arrival and departure, serve as fluid transitions between reflective spaces such as a spiritual walk, contemplative areas, and café.
These design strategies establish a seamless relationship between architecture and nature, shaping an environment that nurtures mental well-being while preserving heritage. The interplay of natural elements, light, and spatial fluidity transforms the historic site into a dynamic retreat, fostering community connection and engagement throughout the day.
